ABOUT | ROLFE MAZDA CANBERRA
It's hard to believe that, over 30 years, Owen Rolfe, armed only with a vision for Canberra's motoring needs, a dual philosophy of calculated risk and hard work, and little capital backing, has built up such an impressive legacy today. Coupled with the ability to surround himself with the best people, this has provided the recipe for the group's success.
The Rolfe Motor Group is a prominent part of the Canberra motoring world, with nine separate sites and 12 new-car franchises.
Of obvious pride is the Rolfe group's long term confidence in Canberra by investing in the development of their motor dealerships, but of greater satisfaction is their investment in more than 220 staff.
Owen's insistence on high customer service levels and better than industry average results still defines the group's work today, and is in no small way connected with the group's most recent endeavour, the $15 million project in Woden on the site of the old Phillip motor registry.
Owen, who came to Canberra from Cooma in the early 1960s, has been heavily involved with smallgoods distribution and farming interests over his varied commercial life. His vigorous competitive instincts might be traced back to the sporting fields and courts of the Monaro.
The Rolfe names lives on in Canberra through Owen's children, David, Richard and Jacqueline, all of whom are either directors of parts of the group or actively involved in managing Rolfe dealerships.
